Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre

Beginning with the newest of the five venues, Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, known as the city’s ‘gathering place’, is bursting onto the scene in late October 2021.

The website tour boasts a world-class venue and a carefully designed and purpose-built architectural and social landmark built to respond to a wide range of your event requirements. Te Pae has been designed as Ōtautahi Christchurch’s ‘gathering place’. A key part of the regeneration of the city, a way of building connections socially, culturally and economically. The name ‘Te Pae’ draws inspiration from several phrases in te reo Māori:

Te Pae Maunga – our mountain views. Te Pae Whenua – the vast plains we inhabit. Te Pae Tangata – a place to meet and converse.

For the Te Pae team, planning an event is more than just a visit. Te Pae want you to experience manaakitanga, feel wholly welcome and design a tailored, fully immersive experience.

The Christchurch Town Hall

Run by Venues Ōtautahi, The Christchurch Town Hall has been given one magnificent make over to bring it back to its original grandeur following the Christchurch earthquakes. Venues Ōtautahi note on their website of the Town Hall featuring five event spaces, a boardroom, its central locality, and the fact the Town Hall never fails to bring a sense of excitement and occasion – and they are right. Set on the banks of the Otakaro Avon River , this heritage listed venue has inspired its guests for generations.

The Town Hall has been beautifully restored and refurbished as well as undergoing a full technological upgrade to further enhance its iconic architectural features and riverside views.

The five key spaces mentioned above include the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium, the James Hay Theatre and three large event spaces: the Limes Room, Avon Room and Victoria Room. Each space can transform effortlessly to meet your needs, and the venue’s integrated technology, including projectors, screens, sound systems and lighting  have all your AV needs covered.

The wide range of event spaces cater for just about every type and size of event you may require. The largest being the Douglas Lilburn Auditorium theatre which caters for 2250.

The Great Hall

If you’re wanting something really historically specific, shift your attention to The Great Hall in the Christchurch Arts Centre. This UNESCO award-winning heritage building has beautiful acoustics, modern heating, lighting and sound all while keeping its stunning heritage style.

The Great Hall was built in 1882 for Canterbury College (now The University of Canterbury) and was used as a small library for the college, public lectures, dances, society gatherings and formal graduation ceremonies – much as it is today.

The hall strongly reflects local heritage and culture. It makes rich use of native timbers, with kauri and rimu panelling, as well as rewarewa, totara and matai timbers being used. The Great Hall has undergone extensive restoration and been strengthened and restored post-earthquake. The large, north-facing stained glass Memorial Window was originally installed in 1938 and is made up of over 4,000 individual pieces of glass. The window is dedicated to the memory of all staff and students who served in WWI – a truly memorable and unique heritage setting for your next event.

Ilex Events Space

If you are after a clean, bright, contemporary venue set in a botanic oasis, Ilex Events Space is perfect.

Taking in the tranquillity of the Otakaro Avon River views, the Ilex Events Space has floor to ceiling windows that let natural light into every part of the room. This stylish space allows for a feeling of exclusivity and intimacy and according to their website provides guests with a one-of-a-kind Botanic Gardens experience.

Isaac Theatre Royal

The Isaac Theatre Royal (ITR) is the final in our collection of iconic Christchurch venues. The Edwardian style historic theatre is set right in the heart of Christchurch central city and has been lovingly restored. It is also regarded as one of the safest, strongest and most spectacular performing arts venues in Australasia.

The team at the Isaac Theare Royal regard it as magnificent and unforgettable. Offering beautiful interiors and a unique heritage experience for its guests.
