Wedding Favour Inspiration: Ideas for your little morsels of love

In the last few years selecting wedding favours seems to have taken on a whole life of itself. Engaged couples all over the world are filled with angst over what they will offer to guests as a thank you for being part of their big day. Should it be a keepsake, something edible, an item that is unique to the couple, or even nothing at all as you have already shelled out on a three course meal and drinks for all your guests?

Before I share a few modern-day wedding favour ideas it is worth mentioning where the tradition of giving a wedding favour even comes from. So after consulting my little book of wedding traditions here is the verdict:

‘Favours are a token gift given to wedding guests as a memento. These little symbols of gratitude often take the form of confectionery presented in a decorative bag or box. Five sugared almonds were the customary favour in Renaissance Italy; thought to bring good luck. Each of the five almonds represented a different well wish; health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.’

So if you’ve decided to give a little something and sugared almonds aren’t your thing here are a few trending ideas to keep your wedding day in your guests mind long after the day has passed.

Love is sweet

Edible favours are a popular choice for many couples. Often doubling as a dessert station, a beautiful selection of cake jars give guests the option of ‘picking one for now or one to savour’. Our favourite cake jar flavours can be found right here in Christchurch at Sugar Baby Cakery. Other options for edible favours include a sweet station, a smores bar or even a ‘decorate your own cookie’ table!

Sensing love

Often we associate memories of different events in our lives through the five senses. The sense of smell is a very powerful provoker of memories, so why not choose a special scent for your wedding candles and recreate these as a take home favour for your guests. Candles by Design offer heaps of different size and design options to choose from.
